The importance of the first impression you make when meeting others is one of the most important parts that reflects your behavior, your personality and many other things.

This can become more challenging when you’ve just joined the new job, where you want to fully establish yourself.

The first impression you make at work may not always be an exact reflection but sometimes other co-workers may perceive you wrong if your first impression is not that good.

In simple words, when you meet someone for the first time, you need to be on point from the very beginning so that you can leave a positive impact of your personality. This includes almost each and everything that includes being aware of everything from the words you choose to the body language you convey.

Whether you’re meeting new connections, team members, potential team / employers, or customers you should have to be fully aware about all these things.

So how can a new candidate make sure to do a great start in a new job role? What can they do to impress their team leaders and other co-workers? 

For this, there are few simple steps that should be taken to improve the chances of making a mark in first impression.

1.Know Your Team

When a new candidate is joining an office, he or she should be well aware about the importance of first impression and should take an initiative to get to know the other team members and their co-workers– this helps them to adapt faster and, therefore, this improves their performance level. The employees that start their job together, the ones who tend to bond with their team early become successful as compared to others.

2. Put Yourself Out There

A great way to put a good impression at your new job– is to just put yourself out there so the rest of the team can learn more about you and they can know you in a better way.

Try to introduce yourself to new co-workers, make sure that you are friendly and polite. 

Always smile when you introduce yourself and keep eye contact, this will boost up your confidence level.

It is not always that you feel comfortable to be a new person at the office, but remember that, at some point, everyone has to go through this phase.

3. Choose Your Words Wisely

Choose your words carefully, as words matter even more than you think and especially when you have to make a good impression at your new job.

Positive words leave a positive impact and make people feel more comfortable , which can ultimately make them more willing to work with you.

If you’re making a great first impression in a job interview and you want employers to find you positive, flexible, and capable, use language that reflects your personality.

4. Be Enthusiastic About Your Task

As we all know the importance of first impressions, try to be enthusiastic about any task that is assigned to you.  

Show great enthusiasm for whatever the task is. Realistically, you’re not going to be assigned the most impactful  tasks when you first join a company, so patience is the answer for this.

5. Make a Connection

Pay close attention to who you’re meeting with for the first time and try to make a bond based on what they share with you. 

That being said, don’t be too creepy. Avoid making comments about appearance and all.. Those sound  more genuine than compliments and prove to be very helpful to maintain a good impression at your new job.

6. Don’t Forget to Follow Up

After a meeting, don’t forget the main step that is – follow up by sending necessary information — notes, presentation docs and so on — or can send a thank you note also.

Such small gestures will help them to understand you in a better way.

Sending out exact and updated  information after a meeting is a sign of your professionalism and your interest in your job.  It helps to show another side of you or your business –that is the more responsible side. 

7. Modulate Your Pitch and Tone of Voice

A high-pitched tone of voice can make you unprofessional.

 Try practising your presentations or recording yourself. This will help you to improve your weak points. 

Even if you’re talking fast, be sure to avoid a few words such as  “um,” “ah,” “like,” and other similar phrases whenever possible, as it reflects hesitation and lack of confidence. 

8.  Put Your Phone Away

It also includes your tablets, laptops, and other electronics as well.

If you  use technology to deliver a presentation or lecture, that’s a completely different thing. If you pay complete attention to the people you’re meeting for the first time to convey your commitments, then it will automatically improve your first impression at a new job.
